Reminder: The Deadline to Submit Comments for the Satutory Consultation re: Bute Energy's proposed Banc Du & Rhiwlas Energy Parks is June 16th at 11:59pm
This is a reminder about the current statutory consultation for Bute Energy’s proposed Banc Du and Rhiwlas “energy parks” near lovely Llangurig.
The following information was provided by Sandy who is an admin for the dedicated Facebook group, Saving Banc Du and Rhiwlas From Energy Park Development created to help stop these proposed abominations which would desecrate and destroy the ancient landscape if planning permission is granted by the Welsh Planning Inspector.

A wind farm of UNIMAGINABLE height is planned for Banc Du on the left, as high as the hill itself, sitting right on top, that could be seen from Shrewsbury, let alone Llanidloes!
Wales produces more electricity than it uses already! Do we want a 'wind farm landscape' with the future of our towns reliant on wind farm handouts, whilst our tranquil area, abundant with wildlife, becomes too ugly and industrialised for our tourist economy to thrive? 40 years of turbines is a long time! Tidal power is more efficient and reliable.
Email Bute Energy a quick note to tell them you object totheir plans to desecrate our precious landscapes at both Banc Du and Rhiwlas, do so before Monday 16th June at 11:59pm:
Banc Du: email banc.du@bute.energy

Rhiwlas: email rhiwlas@bute.energy

or Call : 01686 805 004
For further information about the project I recommend taking a look at the information from Bute Energy’s recent online webinar which they presented in order to try to sell their not clean nor green wind “farm” scheme. You can see the information presented during the webinar in the PDF below. It is essentially their marketing material for the proposed project consisting of two industrial wind factories in beautiful rural Wales.
Bute Energy's "project Update Briefing" Webinar Material For Banc Du & Rhiwlas 15May2025 V1
Alternatively you can view Bute’s virtual exhibition for Banc Du here and Rhwilas here. When you look at the dedicated websites I reccommend looking at the material they have included in the drop down menu on The Project heading for each of the projects.
The cumulative impact of all of the industrial wind plants proposed to be constucted in Wales by Bute Energy and other developers is critically important. Below is a screenshot from Bute Energy’s material for this consultation with a map of their own proposed projects. Twyn Hywel is the only one that has gone through the process and was sadly approved by a Welsh Planning Inspector last year.
I recommend reading Annie Zak’s blog which includes information about the cumulative impact, “Llangurig Surroundedby mounting pressure from Wind farm developments.” The following is an important excerpt from Annie’s blog published May 18, 2025:
Wind turbine Base for a 155m high turbine at Viking Windfarm, Shetland
19 of these turbine bases are required for these two projects alone, and this destruction does not include the necessary roads and borrow pits.
Bute Energy - Banc Du Energy Park 6 x 200m high wind turbines
Bute Energy - Rhiwilas Energy Park 13 x 200m high wind turbines
RES - Lluest Dolgwiail 35 x 230m high wind turbines
Statkraft - Lluest Y Gwynt 12x 180m high wind turbines
It would be greatly appreciated if as many people as possible would kindly submit their comments to Bute Energy by tomorrow’s deadline of 11:59pm in support of members of the community in their battle to protect and preserve this beautiful landscape along with all of the creatures and creations in the area that would be detrimentally affected if planning permission is granted to by the Welsh Government.
